Diana: The People's Princess: A Royal Colouring Album
Published in Paperback by Howe & Associates (December, 1997)
Authors: Peggy J. Howe, Marguerite Wobschall, and Charlotte Krause
Average review score:

I've discovered a classic!
I ordered this book mostly out of curiosity. What a great surprise. This book is a great way to learn the history of Diana without exploiting the controversial aspects of her life. The cover is striking, the illustrations show a respect for detail, and the story is clearly researched and poigantly written . Also, I have noticed this book has stayed in the top 100,000 in ranking while other books about Diana have fallen to the wayside. Quite an accomplishement for a book of this type! Like "The Great Women of History" coloring alum this book will have staying power.

Unique collectible for Diana fans
This album is an unusual collectible, sure to be appreciated by Diana's fans! It was very well written, held my attention, and the illustrations were detailed and some of the best I've seen. I'ts obvious, much time and research went into this book, written with heartfelt admiration for Diana. This author has two other books I've also purchased, that are equally enjoyable.

Elsie Piddock Skips in Her Sleep
Published in Hardcover by Candlewick Press (September, 2000)
Authors: Eleanor Farjeon and Charlotte Voake
Average review score:

Once encountered, never forgotten!
Any child, and I am now fifty-nine years old, who can recite Andy Spandy's ropeskipping rhyme has me for a friend. This is one of those tales for children that sounds better being told aloud by a good reader. When I was growing up, both my parents loved to read aloud, and my sister and I heard many fine tales before the fireplace, listening to mother or father.
But the lilt of the language as the rope swings round is the unforgettable part:
ANDY SPANDY SUGARDY CANDY
FRENCH ALMOND ROCK!
BREAD AND BUTTER FOR YOUR SUPPER'S
ALL YOUR MOTHER'S GOT!

Don't skip this gem
There may be no better book for reading aloud to pre-teens. Originally one of the stories in Farjeon's "Tales Told Under the Green Umbrella" -- long out of print -- Elsie Piddock Skips in Her Sleep is easily as much fun for the adult reader as for the young listener, and in this case that is saying a great deal. It is actually two consecutive stories (ideal for consecutive nights), one a delightful fantasy of fairies and skipping rope -- just as appealing to boys as to girls, honest -- and the second an adventure, at once enthralling and emotionally satisfying, with an ending that will bring tears of delight to all who hear it.

Faith-Guarding Kids in Troubled Times
Published in Paperback by Harrison House, Incorporated (June, 1996)
Author: Charlotte Rahrig
Average review score:

This book is an excellent resource
Faith-Guarding Kids in Troubled Times is an excellent reference resource for al who have daily dealings with children of any age. It lines out (very clearly) the will of God in your children's lives, and how to make sure it can happen in their lives.

A very pleased reader, and parent.
I once had the pleasure of knowing Charlotte. I go to the church she use to attend. I was given this book shortly after having my first child (who happens to be named Faith). I just read the book and was very impressed. As someone who knew Charlotte, I know she has a heart for children. In the book she says God showed her that putting a child in the corner is wrong. It gives way for the devil to tell them "see even they don't think your good enough". And I know no parent wants they're kids to think that. We don't want to give the devil any place in our kids lives. It is also very good for teachers.

A Flourishing Yin: Gender in China's Medical History, 960-1665
Published in Hardcover by University of California Press (March, 1999)
Author: Charlotte Furth
Average review score:

Very Highly Recommended!
This book brings the study of gender to Chinese medicine and in so doing contextualizes Chinese medicine in history. It examines the rich but neglected tradition of fuke, or medicine for women, over the seven hundred years between the Song and the end of the Ming dynasty. Using medical classics, popular handbooks, case histories, and belles lettres, it explores evolving understandings of fertility and menstruation, gestation and childbirth, sexuality, and gynecological disorders. The author locates medical practice in the home, where knowledge was not the monopoly of the learned physician and male doctors had to negotiate the class and gender boundaries of everyday life. Women as healers and as patients both participated in the dominant medical culture and sheltered a female sphere of expertise centered on gestation and birth. Furth analyzes the relationship of language, text, and practice and reexamines the epistemological foundations of our knowledge of the body and its history.

For woman's health great insight
A very informative text and source book on the history and practice of woman's health and healing in ancient China. Her scholarship is immaculate and her insight into the "Yellow Emperor's Body" showed the distinction between sex and gender. She traces the development of TCM treatment of woman's illness and how it becomes essential. That very early on, the Chinese Doctor are aware of the difference between woman and man in their similar sickness. A good resource for all woman Qigong and Taiji students as well as their teachers. This book also deal with the basics of the Chinese medical concept of vital fluid of blood, Jing/Creative essence, and Shen/ the Spirit, and the developmental stages of the woman's life cycles.

A Flower Blooms on Charlotte Street: A Novel
Published in Hardcover by Mercer University Press (April, 1999)
Author: Milam McGraw Propst
Average review score:

A "warm fuzzy feeling" book. You don't want it to end.
This is a very sweet book. The author writes so you truly "feel" her words. The author's grandmother, Ociee, is a delight. I hope Milam Propst writes a sequel as I would enjoy reading more about Ociee in her later years. I have bought at least 6 copies for gifts for my friends.

Makes you feel good all over!
If you want to read a nice book that gives you a warm, cozy feeling, this is for you..no violence, no bad words. The author's charachters come alive and by the end you feel you know the protagonist, Ociee, personally.

I am ordering additional copies for several friends and family members.

I hope Milam will come out with a sequel. I want to know more about Ociee.

Foundations for Writing, Grades K-2 (Activity Book for Language Art)
Published in Paperback by Ecs Learning Systems (October, 1993)
Author: Charlotte Slack
Average review score:

Foundations for Writing
I am a former student of the author, Charlotte Slack. As an Elementary Education major I was surprised to realize that I had never been taught how to teach writing, until I got to Slack's class. I used this book to teach 2nd grade writing and found great sucess in my own teaching as well as the student's writing. This book focusess on teaching the process of writing not simply telling the students to write responses to different prompts. This is a great book to follow if you are not yet confident in your ability of teaching writing!

Classroom-tested Lesson Plans that Teach Children to Write!
I am the author, so of course I am giving this book five stars! As an elementary teacher, I found myself totally unprepared to teach my students to write. I had never been taught to write myself. I knew good writing when I saw it, but I was unable to teach children how to do it. So, I began extensive reading and research and attended countless workshops and seminars on writing. Mostly I learned a lot of theory and ways to get kid to write. I could get the kids writing, but they were not writing well. I finally put together a writing program based on what I had learned from research studies and what I knew worked in the classroom. This book, and a second book for older students, are the result. The book is organized in a lesson-plan format, with objectives, materials, focus, and step-by-step guidance on how to teach each lesson. It has been classroom tested, and has proven to be particularly effective in helping students pass state-mandated writing tests. This book is based on the writing process, but takes the process the necessary extra step by filling in what to do during each stage of the process. The writing process is hollow without thorough, specific instructions on how to write along the way. That's what beginning writers need, and that's what this book offers. I frequently give workshops to teachers around the state, and participants always say, "This makes so much sense!" I currently have a contract with Prentice Hall to write a college textbook for elementary education majors on how to teach children to write. In the meantime, this book helps teachers already in the classroom.

Four Stories by American Women: Life in the Iron Mills by Rebecca Harding Davis/Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman/Country of the Pointed
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (December, 1990)
Authors: Cynthia Wolff, Edith Wharton, and Sarah Orne Jewett
Average review score:

A wonderful look at some Early American Women's Lit.
Excellent choices. Highly recommended for your Womens Studies research or just for a pleasure read. I particularly love "The Yellow Wallpaper." A fascinating look in the shackled mind of stifled feminine creativity.

Inspired Reading
This book is inspirational as well as educational by transitioning between Romanticism and Realism. The work challenges the reader to decide whether it refers simply to the prospect of salvation for a man convicted of stealing. Also questions are raised that is it possible that through the naturalistic view that Hugh's theft he can be excused by his unfortunate environment and heredity. Davis is an insightful and thoughtful writer, and this book represents that.

Crowning Glory
For those people who adore jewellery and Master Jewellers, this book is a must. With easy to read historical text, this book highlights the overwhelming reponsibility it is to be the Crown Jeweller to the british Royal Family, both serving the Queen and maintaining the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London. Garrard, arguably the most exclusive Jewellers in the world is not like other jewllers such as Cartier or Chaumet. as there is only one Garrad store in the world and they do not often allow those whose bloodlines do not run in the bluest of hues enter their premises, so this book allows the reader to experience the world that is Garrard, by showing detailed pictures of the Garrard show palace and some of the finest and most valuable jewels ever created. This book allows the reader to escape into a differant way of life and allows that reader a glimpse into that world strictly reserved for royalty and nobility alike. A fantastic read with exceptional picture quality. Check out the fabulous Cullinan Diamond known as the "Star of Africa" which at 530.00 carats is the largest and most valuable stone in the world.

Crowning Glory
For those who adore jewellery and Master Jewellers, this book is a must. Detailing the rise and sustaining importance of the British Crown Jewellers, Garrards of London, arguably the most exclusive jewellers in the world, this book offers the reader an insightful view into the overwhelming responsibility of serving the British Royal Family and maintaining the priceless Crown Jewels in the Tower of London. Gararrd's rarely open their doors to non-blue-bloods and this book allows the reader to see inside their magnificent show palace and to see some of the most remarkable jewellery ever created. With flowing easy to read, historical script and magnificent quality of pictures it is a book that evokes and encapsulates another world in which the reader will want to experience again and again.

The Gerson Therapy: The Amazing Nutritional Program for Cancer and Other Illnesses
Published in Paperback by Kensington Pub Corp (October, 2001)
Authors: Charlotte Gerson and Morton, D.P.M. Walker
Average review score:

Outstanding Resource !
Much like the previous poster, I also suffered a degenerative disease. I did the research for a cure while healing from some conventional radiation therapy. I began the Gerson Therapy (GT)as indicated in this book in part, started feeling stronger and got into it full tilt. I must admit, Dr. Max Gerson MD, the author's father, hit the nail on the head in terms of a curative therapy. His is some heirloom information and techniques that have survived because they work.

If you need to buy a book on how to get well from degenerative disease, this is the first choice. Get started now. Begin now. Disease as simple as arthritis, and as tough as cancer respond to this therapy. I know from personal experience also. The program is nutritional and detoxification with minimum supplements. The book informs as to what and why and when to use what. They do not sell vitamins, or expensive publications, just straight forward truth.

I also, particularily for Multiple Myeloma or Plasmacytoma patients, but cancer patients generally, highly recommend the book, 'Living Proof', by Michael Gearin-Tosh, published 2002. It is a wonderful narrative of how to approach cancer treatment written by a man diagnosed MM but who did Gerson Therapy and lives.

Do it, get well, and write your own review ! I'll be checking back from time to time. God Bless.

Read this book on Chronic Disease first
A Highly Recommended First Book On The Use And Application Of Alternative Medicine/Natural Healing for Chronic Conditions.

This is the book that I would first recommend for anyone wanting to understand the use of alternative medicine for the healing of any chronic condition including cancer I would also highly recommend this book to anyone contemplating the use of conventional medicine as well because of the excellent material on the disease process and the potential for using this or some other alternative therapy in a complimentary or combination process of natural and conventional healing. The issue in addressing healing of chronic diseases is for the person with the disease and their family to be sufficiently unformed of the causes and all possible treatment possibilities so that they can make informed and responsible decisions about their total treatment. Other therapies and approaches could be evaluated as to how well they addressed all of the healing concepts detailed in this book.

"The Gerson Therapy" is a welcome and highly recommended addition to the multitude of books that address healing of chronic conditions including cancer by using natural or alternative means. The specific approach is healing by a combination of high quality nutrition and total body detoxification. The Therapy is a total program and does require significant life style changes at least for the detailed therapy. Actually, lifetime lifestyle changes will be required to remain healthy, but these are easily done once one has gone through the detailed therapy.

This book accomplishes several needed functions. The Gerson Therapy is brought up to date, (the therapy is over 60 years old), with the latest information including program modifications for people who have had chemotherapy, for people who are in an extremely weakened state, and a modified program for non cancer chronic conditions. The information is provided in a highly readable and understandable format. The book details the background, theory, and enough specific cases to establish credibility without being overbearing. In fact most of the case studies are used to detail understanding of the therapy. The book does not sugar coat the difficulty of healing using natural therapy and states that the Gerson Therapy may be the most difficult to follow of the many that are available. All of the information required to do the therapy either on one's own or in conjunction with a qualified clinic or practitioner is provided in easily accessible section. (There is some redundancy in some of the specific sections but this redundancy eliminates the need to search for needed information for people who are following the therapy). The number of recipes is expanded from previous books, and this is a welcome addition for anyone who has followed the therapy. The mental aspects of natural healing are now addressed and are given a separate section in the book. Finally, many tricks and techniques needed to make the therapy more workable are included. The bottom line is that the book is both informative and is useable as a day to day guide for anyone deciding to do the therapy.

I feel qualified to make these statements about this book because three years ago I was diagnosed with cancer and after much research and discussions with conventional and alternative practitioners, I chose to first start with the Gerson Therapy. The results have been wonderful with the cancer having gone in remission after about 18 months and numerous other problems have responded to the therapy as well. I have not had to revert to my back up plan of conventional medicine. Yes the therapy can be difficult to follow particularly because it is highly restrictive on food, requires time to make fresh vegetable juices several times every day, and requires time to do the detoxification procedures. And yes, the diet has different taste due to the salt and fat restrictions, but one quickly get use to the different tasee However, to be healed without permanent side effects is well worth the effort and the required life style changes. While I had excellent support materials available, this book is still a significant improvement to the available literature. I found nothing in this book that I had a problem with and with the improvements that have been made, the book deserves the five star rating

The process of natural healing is not easy, requires attention to detail, and continued study to avoid setbacks through the process. This new book on the Gerson Therapy will provide information that can assist the decision process and will provide up to date information on the therapy's application.

The Gladstone Bag
Published in Audio Cassette by Books on Tape, Inc. (29 January, 2001)
Author: Charlotte MacLeod
Average review score:

Charlotte McLeod is in fine form
Sarah Kelling's Aunt Emma is a woman who throws herself into good works, such as leaping from a burning building into a net to raise money for a fireman's widow. Now old friend Adelaide Sabine needs a hostess for her isolated summer place on Pocapuk Island, and Emma leaps again. She'll enjoy a quiet summer of rest, relaxation, and repairing the stage jewelry belonging to her pet Gilbert and Sullivan troupe while she keeps a benevolent eye on the artists and writers who'll be occupying Adelaide's six guest cottages. She packs up the baubles in her old Gladstone bag and heads for the coast of Maine. On the ferry, Emma is drugged and her bag temporarily stolen - could someone have mistaken the paste jewels for real diamonds? On the island, she's barely settled in when her Gladstone bag is heisted again, a trespassing scuba diver is found dead, and a mysterious stranger is off on a rampage of attempted murders. Emma won't stand for such a shocking breach of island etiquette. She enlists niece Sarah and nephew-in-law Max Bittersohn for a spot of long-distance detecting - and sets about digging a trap for a ruthless villain. A fine and witty read.

One of Her Best!
If you like Charlotte Macleod's books at all - don't miss this one, if you can get hold of a copy. It's lively and fun all the way, without the dry stretches that can strike any prolific author.
